Well that was interesting, Part 2

WoWScrnShot_122109_235514

So after not being part of a raiding guild, I finally, finally, finally got to do a full clear of 25-man TotC. I know, it’s content everyone else has been farming already and the new raid is out. But I still haven’t been all the way through, until now. A guild of that I know has skilled members was filling some spots in a guild run so I figured what the hell.

The group formed nice and smooth, everyone hopped in vent and away we went. Minus one wipe on Faction Champs, first four bosses went down without a hitch. The RL said that they didn’t plan on going after Anub’Arak unless the DPS was high enough on first four bosses. Interestingly enough, every piece of hunter loot that I could use dropped, it was amazing.

But oh, did I forget to mention? I was on my fracking druid healing!

toc25-healingThat’s right, both trips to a full TotC clear have NOT been on my hunter. As you may recall, I main tanked a few weeks ago, something I did not think I was capable of right now. But yeah, this time I was druid healing. I totally dig my druid and had a blast, but I do want to see how my DPS compares to others in a raid. Hesston’s gun is getting rusty damn it.

On the positive side, we did go and decide to give Anub’Arak a shot. What kind of shot you ask? Well a mofo one-shot, that’s what. Not only that, everyone was alive. And not only that, check out the overall for the entire raid meter to your left. Now I don’t put too much stock in healing meters because they don’t take into account a lot of factors, but I’m still pretty proud of that shit. Hell, I only started druid healing not too long ago. And hey, I even got a new belt out of the deal, as well as met some cool people.

This was a good test to see if I can raid heal and if my gear is ready to move in that direction. I am thinking of trying to join a raiding guild to see ICC with, but as a healer and not on Hesston. This was and will always be a hunter blog, but for now I’ve just decided it is just too hard to get into a raiding guild as not only a pure DPS class, but one of the most hated on of the pure DPS classes.

Plus, hunter DPS’ing just isn’t that challenging anymore. I recently put together an Armor Penetration spec with Hesston. It’s ridiculous how easy it is considering that once you have all the pieces, you take a shot OUT of your rotation to do more DPS. What!?

Like I said, I still love huntering, but until Cataclysm comes out and I do the great goblin hunter adventure, this blog might focus less on being a hunter and more about the life of my alts and WoW in general (unless of course something changes and I can raid on Hesston, because I would do it in a second). We’ll have to wait and see.

Take care. Good hunting.

Random thangs

Hesston | October 18, 2009 11:09 am

hesston-pvpSo like I said, been doing more PvP and have been having a ball. Trying different glyph/spec setups, having found the perfect one yet. Still thinking about doing a BM cleave/burst setup, but I’d want a spirit beast or something and not a damn devilsaur. The stomping is just too annoying.

I’m beginning to become less concerned with getting better stuff on Hesston since I’ve come to realize that A) It’s just stuff, B) I can still DPS with the best of them even without a BiS ranged weapon, and C) 3.3 is going to have a 3 heroics, something I can always run and will surely have something decent in it. I simply don’t have the time to jump into any raids where I can get new a ranged weapon, with the exception of Ony25, and fail PuG groups are more irritating in that place than almost anywhere else.

Right now, I’m having fun again and playing allows me to relax and forget about work, etc. So that’s the most important thing. Oh, and there’s this too:

krakattoa-40

He’s actually level 44 now after another day or two. Tons of fun, can’t wait to get him to the higher levels and maybe be a bear tank.

Update /FAIL

Hesston | October 13, 2009 9:21 am

Yeah, so I said I was going to be updating this more. That’s working out well so far, meh. I do have a post born from some internal loot drama with the guild that makes me question why we (or I) even play WoW. It’s not a knock against them in the slightest, and more of just a launchpad for looking at why we WoW.

I’ve also been thinking more and more about faction switching one or more toons just for a change of pace. However, my three main characters are a bit of a team for making money, so it’d be hard to split them up. And the thought of turning Minalias into a B-Elf paladin makes me want to fucking puke.

So, to reinvigorate my interest in the game and since I can’t raid much these days, I decided to start PvP’ing more. I used to hate it because I would get owned by anyone and everyone that came along. However, now that I have a better idea what I’m doing, as well as more PvP gear, I’ve racked up quite of kills and PvP achievements.

I’ve been thinking of trying some Arena to get some of the better PvP gear (and the gun *drool*), but I’m not sure I’m ready for that embarrassment. I mean, I can lose gracefully in a BG with 40 other people, not so much in a 3v3.

Pew pew.

minalias

Minalias has managed to improve his healing set a bit through badges and ToC runs. I love 3.2 life. And his tank set has improved dramatically, so much so that I have no trouble tanking heroics and have even done some Naxx. I’ve got him up to 32K HP unbuffed and 554 defense; without a single piece of tier gear and a blue chest. Not bad I’d say.

P.S. Thinking of rejoining Summit as a casual, just to have a regular stable of good peeps to run with. Hmm, maybe.

Greatness, I haz it!

greatness

Some lucky procs on my scribe and a little gold, and I finally have the damn card. Now, if only I could get my other trinket. I pug’ed OS and of course the caster one drops, which doesn’t drop when I pug it on Minalias. Eff you RNG!

I also got some new shoulders, which gives me the T8, 2-piece bonus. This, in turn, gives my Chimera Shots a little more oomph.

And Mimiron is still a jerk. We hates him.

That is all for now.

Iron Council down!

iron_council

We managed to two-shot the three stooges last night. It was very well done too, everyone performed stellar. As an aside, Hesston was pretty happy with the numbers he was able to put up. Granted, I got in plenty of Runes of Power and the third phase of this fight is very melee unfriendly, but still pleased. The MM spec is going well minus the OOM issue. However, I discovered a new solution to that which I will experiment with tonight.

We also downed both Ignis and Auriaya. Now it’s on to the (Heroic) Keepers of Ulduar. This is going to be fun.

auriaya ignis

P.S. Our Auriaya pic is so full of win it makes my head hurt.

Because what else are you going to do on a rainy Sunday?

hesston_the_noble

Well, that and clearing more up in 10-man Ulduar. Although we couldn’t get Mimiron down. Holy monkey that fight is complicated…fun, but complicated. More later.

(And yeah, I’m running around with my pigsticker. Get away from my eggs!)

Ulduar is awesome!…

Hesston | April 16, 2009 7:34 am

…well the 20 minutes of it we actually got to see was any way. We had one shot at Flame Leviathan and then the instance crashed and the entire server started having problems.

So, to make the best of it we decided to head to Malygos to get some folks gear they needed. About 3 minutes in, everything froze. It was very interesting to look at. We all logged into alts and were amused to see ourselves still sitting in the Eye of Eternity. When I could finally log back in, it led to this “WTF!?” moment.

wtf_moment

I logged out, then in to find myself a ghost in Crystalsong Forest with my body outside the sewers of Dalaran. Um, yeah.

Initial 3.1. Thoughts

  • News dailies = awesome

  • Fishing dailies = More awesome
  • Scribe = money
  • Hesston DPS = UP!
  • Minalias heals = UP!

Hesston’s new spec looks like this. However, despite what this shows I do in fact have Black Arrow. The armory still needs some work. Yesterday it showed my spec as this. Best spec evar!

There are some tweaks that will probably need to be made, but once I can test it in a raid instance I’ll see what can stay and what can go. As it stands, with my wolf pet I managed to hit 3200 on a testing dummy with no buffs. That was lucky with several Lock and Load procs however, and it seems the average was closer to 2900-3000. Now this is testing dummy peoples, so don’t be all “lolz nub, I do 5K on Patchwerk with a faceroll!1!!!!1″.

The rotation is a little more involved now, making sure to keep Black Arrow up as much as possible and throwing in an Aimed Shot every time it is off cooldown. I’ll post more about it later.

Take care, I’m off to go fishing.

Apparently the tough economy is even taking its toll on the citizens of Dalaran.

On a side note, Minalias healed some of his first 10-man Naxx … with only eight people. Since he is a little undergeared for it (not one piece of tier gear yet), it was a little intense. Picked up a new necklace and a shield. Naturally I get the shield the day after I spent the badges on the Protective Barricade of Light from the vendor. I had no idea I would be taking him to Naxx when I traded the badges in, and that’s just how the WoW world works. It’s funny that way.

Have a good one.

Reclaiming your real estate

Since I’ve been raiding more and more in this game I’ve struggled to make sure I am making optimal use of my screen area while still being able to keep track of all things hunterish. I think I finally found a workable configuration so I thought I would share. It should be noted that something like this, that uses a lot of addons and liberal use of the screen space, requires a computer with a little more oomph and a large monitor.

    My PC:

  • Windows Vista 64-Bit OS
  • 4GB RAM
  • Intel Core2 Quad CPU – 2.34GHz
  • nVidia 9500GT graphics card
  • Monitor – 22″ Westinghouse L2210NW

My goal here is to get the maximum amount of information to me while being able to see as much of what is going on as possible. Still haven’t tested this latest layout in a party/raid environment so that will come later this week.

It should be noted that I am running MiksScrollingBattleText, but for some reason it doesn’t show up in screenshots.
